Crimewatch is one of the longest-established high profile shows from the BBC. The programme serves as a tool to solve significant crimes by broadcasting re-constructions and actual footage of incidents. The public are then invited to call in with information in the hopes of solving historic cases.
This series in particular was the Crimewatch Roadshow, where the team travels the country and broadcasts live from locations which have relevance to the crimes featured in each episode.
Aerial Republic have worked extensively with the BBC and was approached by the team in Cardiff to see if it was possible to have a live, broadcast quality (1080i) drone feed. This would be used to cut to throughout the shows, therefore establishing the locations in real time.
For this we used one of our larger set ups, which we modified to carry the transmission equipment. The series was a huge success and the BBC has already booked us for more live shows this summer as it brings a whole new dynamic to the show’s videography that was never before possible.
